LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP FROM WELLS COLLEGE

Aurora, New York - Michael Seeber, a high school senior from Plattsburgh, has been named a Henry Wells Scholar at Wells College - one of the school's most prestigious awards for prospective incoming students. Henry Wells Scholars are high school students with a 90% cumulative grade point average and 1150 or higher in the SATs who are nominated by a guidance counselor or Wells alumna. Having demonstrated academic excellence in high school, Scholars are awarded $3,000 to fund an experiential learning opportunity should they choose to enroll at Wells College. During the freshman year, they receive hands-on experience in a work setting that matches their academic interests. The paid experience, which takes place during the junior or senior year, can be an internship, research project with a professor, or off-campus study, among other options.

Wells President Lisa Marsh Ryerson said, "We consider our Henry Wells Scholars to be among ‘the best and brightest.' They are students who have the potential to change the world using their talents and gifts, and a Wells education will prepare them for leadership in their chosen fields by connecting classroom learning with real-world experience. We are pleased to be able to provide financial resources and guaranteed internships to help them achieve their goals."

At Wells, most majors require experiential work for credit. While many colleges restrict internships to juniors and seniors, Wells students are encouraged to participate in experiential learning as soon as they feel ready.
